Samenvatting

Until now, the Middle Dutch verse text Jonathas ende Rosafiere was only known by fragments, both in manuscript and print, from around 1500. Recently, paper fragments from the third quarter of the 14th century were discovered in the City Archives of Mechelen. These fragments are contemporary with the oldest paper manuscripts of Middle Dutch literature. In this article the first edition of the fragments is combined with a meticulous reconstruction of the codex and the lacunae in the text, offering new insights in the remarkable fluidity of this popular story’s transmission.
