Abstract – The article deals with different narrative strategies in ‘colonial literature’ and their implications in the field of knowledge transfer. Against the background of the theory of transculturation it examines different forms of the use of local knowledge. The work of Rogerius is primarily determined by ‘the moments of wonder’ in the appropriation of the Asian culture. Also here it turns out that a respectful dealing with local knowledge cannot do without the translational framework of domestication either. The ‘colonial discourse’ as a power strategy determines Valentyn’s mode of writing. He uses the enlightened, scientific way of narrating stories for the empowerment of the European thinking against the putative dangers of non-European philosophy.
