Zelfrepresentatie in brieven: epistolair ik en lyrisch ik

Rob van de Schoor

Samenvatting

Biographical interpretation by means of self representation in poems and writers' letters seems no longer prohibited in an institutional approach to literature. The letters exchanged between Willem Kloos and Albert Verwey can be regarded as an argument in favour of such an interpretation: their correspondence and poems are additional ways of communication: messages of sadness, loneliness and disappointment. As such, they bear resemblance to the poems of Hölty, that convey a similar portrait of the artist as a misunderstood melancholist.
