Vreemde spelers op ons veld! Receptie van buitenlandse literatuur in Nederland in de negentiende eeuw: moeilijkheden en mogelijkheden

Rob van de Schoor

Samenvatting

Where it concerns the nineteenth century, research on the presence of foreign literature in the Netherlands must adapt concepts from polysystem theory to a reality of literary history that is sometimes fundamentally different from that of the twentieth century. Issues such as influence (and anxiety about being influenced), intertextuality, and the distinction between the influence of a foreign author and his success need to be taken into account. At the same time, the emphasis on a new theoretical research framework cannot justify ignoring the significance of 'outdated' research in reception history.
