Sluipwegen voor de kunst. Receptie van buitenlandse literatuur in Nederland in de zeventiende eeuw

Natascha Veldhorst

Samenvatting

This article presents an overview of the various ways in which foreign literature reached the Netherlands during the the early modern period. It investigates the areas of reception that have been researched intensively in the past, as well as new ones that deserve to be explored in the future. Special attention is paid to the characteristic ways in which transmission took place at the time: not only obvious ways of reception like translations and adaptations were important for the international dissemination of literature in the Golden Age, but also less visible and more devious routes, like Dutch songbooks and florilegia. Foreign texts slipped into our national literature rather unnoticed.
