Wat zeggen de vroegste edities over de auteur van Die evangelische peerle?

Kees Schepers

Samenvatting

The Evangelische Peerle, arguably the most important sixteenth-century mystical Middle Dutch text (based on the number of editions and translations into Latin and vernaculars), has been the subject of numerous studies by eminent scholars. They primarily produced hypotheses concerning the anonymous author and her context. In this article I argue that the influential propositions of Albert Ampe are partly based on false assumptions (some of which acknowledged by Ampe in an unpublished study). My aim is to open the way for an unprejudiced reading of the Evangelische Peerle, based on an understanding of the text itself without being predisposed by interpretations and conjectures.
