De duur van de svarabhaktivocaal in het Standaardnederlands
Samenvatting
This paper studies the duration of epenthetic schwa in spontaneously spoken Standard Dutch. It focuses on tautosyllabic and heterosyllabic conso- nant clusters consisting of /r/ followed by a non-alveolar consonant (e.g. werk vs. werken). The sample consists of spontaneous speech produced by 160 teachers of Dutch, originating from different regions in Flanders and the Netherlands. The average duration of epenthetic schwa appeared to be significantly longer in the Netherlands than in Flanders. Moreover, a significant effect of the speaker’s sex and regional background was found. Age (as main effect) did not cause significant differences.
