Meer dan de stem van Indisch Nederland. Tjalie Robinson en de avant-garde

Jeroen Dewulf

Samenvatting

The work of Tjalie Robinson has traditionally been read almost exclusively within the context of ‘Indisch’ literature. Although this article does not deny the essential importance of the Indonesian-Dutch connection for Robinson, it deliberately focuses on his work from a different perspective in order to highlight the influence of avant-garde ideas and concepts in both his literary work and his conception of a hybrid and transnational ‘Indo’-identity. By comparing his writings to those of the French avant-garde author Blaise Cendrars, it also tries to explain the reasons behind Robinson’s use of Latin-American models.
