Tussen fictie en non-fictie. Paratekstuele strategieën en de receptie van Het refrein is Hein

Wouter Schrover

Samenvatting

This article explores the soundness of perlocutionary and illocutionary views on fictionality by means of a case study. The relations between the paratext and the reception of Bert Keizer’s Het refrein is Hein (1994) and the British and American editions of this book (1996, 1997) are studied with regard to the attribution of fictionality and non-fictionality. It is concluded that perlocutionary and illocutionary views on fictionality serve different purposes: while the former offers a theory of the way texts are read, the latter aims to give a demarcation between fictional and non-fictional texts. As such, they can complement each other.
