Abstract – In Middle Dutch Studies a traditional distinction is made between Arthurian romance and Carolingian epic. A cluster analysis of the rhyme word vocabulary in these works indeed reflects this distinction, although scholars have recently also stressed the many similarities between both text types. So far no Middle Dutch author is known to have composed both types of texts. A stylometric analysis of the authorial rhyming styles in the corpus, nevertheless, suggests that Karel ende Elegast, Moriaen and Lantsloot vander Haghedochte were composed by one and the same poet, a theory originally proposed by the late K.H. Heeroma. I will argue that this hypothesis deserves a careful reconsideration.
